PERSHING Wins the 62nd of 2000 Guineas

 

 

62nd edition of the 2000 Guineas (G1), considered as the most important rehearsal of the Gazi Derby, was held in Veliefendi Racecourse on 14th May 2017.

 

PERSHING (Scarface - Orse Gül / Sri Pekan) owned by Kamil Kahyaoğlu, bred by C. Mehtap Yargı and trained by İbrahim Bekiroğulları won the race with his jockey Halis Karataş with its powerful attacks on the last meters.

The race with 500.000 TL prize money, was held on turf on 1600 meters with the participation of 11 colts of 3yo. PIANO SONATA (Torok - Emma / Shining Steel) owned by Oğuz Yalçın finished race as second with Özcan Yıldırım and followed by ULAN BATOR (Luxor - Gençceren / Kaneko) with  Kadir Tokaçoğlu and ESKAYRA(Powerscourt - Sarılar Güzeli / Mujdahit) with Akın Sözen.

 

 

PERSHING started its racing career in Ankara on 31st May 2016 and had its first victory on 04th July 2016 in Ankara too. The successful colt then went to Adana for the winter season and finished Toroslar Cup (G2) and Tendürek Cup as fourth. PERSHING obtained the fourth and most important victory with its successful performance at 2000 Guineas.

 

First Leg of Triple Crown

1000 & 2000 Guineas are the first leg of Triple Crown. If the winners of 1000 & 2000 Guineas also win Gazi Derby and Ankara Cup, they will be winning both the Triple Crown and obtain the prize money of 1.350.000 TL.

 

 

MARACAIBO still holds the finish time record of 2000 Guineas with 1.34.12 , and the finish time for the 62nd of 2000 Guineas winner PERSHING was 1.34.89. The margins of the race was 4 L – 1,5 L – 1,5 L.

 

 

Behçet Homurlu, Vice-Chairman of EMHF and Member of Board of High Stewards also the former President of TJK presented a trophy to Kamil Kahyaoğlu, the winning owner.

 

 

 

H. Turgut Alakuş, General Secretary of TJK presented a plate to İbrahim Bekiroğulları, the winning trainer and Sadettin Atığ, Executive Board Member of TJK, presented a plate to Halis Karataş, the winning jockey. Yüksel Göktürk, Permanent Member of TJK and Çetin Özdemir, Istanbul Racecourse Manager also attended the ceremony after the race.
