Diyarbakır Racecourse Opens with a Wonderful Ceremony

 

The 8th racecourse of Turkey, constructed in the beautiful south eastern city of Diyarbakır, opened with a wonderful ceremony in which Mr. Mehmet Mehdi Eker, Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was present, on Wednesday, September 30.

 

 

Governor of Diyarbakır, Mr. Hüseyin Avni Mutlu and parliament members Mr. Dengir Mir Mehmet Fırat, Mr. Kutbettin Arzu, Mr. Ali İhsan Merdanoğlu attended the Grand Opening which was hosted by the board of Jockey Club of Turkey. Important names of the business world and many press members were also present in the opening ceremony which also attracted a high interest from the public.

 

 

Folk music concerts and playgrounds for kids attracted many to the racecourse.     

 

 

Diyarbakır Racecouse is built with the purpose of contributing the people of the region both economically and socially and also to promote breeding of racehorses. The construction of the racecouse had created excitement among people from the beginning and it’s opening is expected to boost the interest towards horseracing substantially and will also be backing up the economical and social improvements throughout the region.

 

 

Diyarbakır Racecourse is the largest racecourse of Turkey in terms of open space, situated on an area of about 150 hectars, has a dirt track of 1600 metres long and 20 metres wide. The crowd capacity is 1500, and the facility includes a horse hospital, paddock, doping control center, cafe, blacksmith, and 120 box stalls consisting of 5 blocks. The races will be held on Wednesdays only and the season will end on November 25 after completion of 70 races which will be held in 10 race days.
