GRAYSTORM Wins 90th Gazi Derby
Graystorm, owned by Ahmet Güzelocak and trained by Ahmet Çelik won the
Gazi Derby with its jockey Ahmet Çelik on turf track on 2400 meters with
a finish time of 2.30.50.
Mr. Faruk Çelik, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock presented the cup to the winning owner.
90th of the Gazi Derby, named after our great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, was held at Veliefendi Racecourse on 26th June 2016. GRAYSTORM (Luxor – Setryn / STRIKE THE GOLD) owned by Ahmet Güzelocak won the Derby with a finish time of 2.30.50 with its jockey Ahmet Çelik. Ahmet Çelik won the Derby for the first time in 2015 and with its success in 90th Derby, he now has two Derby victories.
20 colts and 2 fillies struggled to win the 90th Gazi Derby on 2400 meters on turf. Approximately 25.000 race fans watched the race at 17:15 at Veliefendi Racecourse. TEMSİL owned by A. Melih Kura, (Dai Jin – Latigo Bay / EAGLE EYED) finished the Derby as second with Akın Sözen and followed by Eray Hazar’s COOGER (Victory Gallop – Caminando / MOUNTAIN CAT) with Gökhan Kocakaya and Yıldırım Gelgin’s VICTORY IS OURS(Victory Gallop – Lovely Doyoun / DOYOUN) with Özcan Yıldırım. The margins of the race: ½ L – N – ½ L
Mr. Faruk Çelik, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock presented the cup to Mr. Ahmet Güzelocak, the winning owner. The winning trainer Mr. Mehmet Cücel received his plate from Mr. Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Minister of Youth and Sports while the winning jockey Ahmet Çelik received his plate from Dr. Nusret Yazıcı, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock also the Chairman of the Board of High Stewards.
The champion thoroughbred received a total prize money of 2.466.750 TL including the First Prize, Breeder’s Premium and entry fees.
Graystorm is now a step closer to the Triple Crown after its recent success in 2000 Guineas followed by it Gazi Derby Victory. If the successful thoroughbred wins Ankara Stakes on 24th September at Ankara 75th Year Racecourse, it will be honored with the Triple Crown.
