Abbreviated Term Explanation
C Colt Ungelded male horse up to three-years-old
F Filly Female horse up to three-years-old
H Horse Ungelded male horse over three-years-old
M Mare Female horse over three-years-old
G Gelding Gelded male horse of any age
b blinkers A garment fitted over a horse's head with holes for the eyes and ears, one or both eyeholes being fitted with cowls cutting out all vision to the rear but permitting full forward vision
e/s eyeshield A garment similar to blinkers except that in place of the eye cowls both eyes are covered with a mesh or other transparent material
c/c eyecover A garment similar to blinkers except that in place of the eye cowls one eye only is completely covered by an opaque cover
h hood A garment similar to blinkers, incorporating ear covers but without eye cowls
t tongue strap Any device used to tie down a horse's tongue
cp cheek pieces Two strips of sheepskin of equal size or any other similar material or device which is attached to the cheek pieces of the bridle

SM Stable Mate Horses owned by the same owner and horses owned by his/her siblings and their spouses and children running in the same race upon the written request of both sides and announced that they are “stable entry” in the official racing program.
